The Daniel Thew family of Peru, N.Y. was a large family whose members scattered over northern New York and a number of western states and territories.

Scope of Collection

Letters written by Union army soldiers to Daniel and Betsey Thew of Peru, N.Y.: James and Josephus Thew were two of Daniel’s sons and stepsons to Betsey. Darius (Dyce) Thew was Betsey’s son and stepson to Daniel. Thomas Kirby, and Thomas Huston were two of Daniel and Betsey’s nephews. One of the letters is written to Daniel and Betsey Thew by Darius Lobdell’s wife, Roxanna Lobdell.
