Historical Context

The Town of Caroline was first settled around 1800 as part of the Watkins and Flint Purchase.  It has always been a fairly rural community, ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 residents in its 55 square miles. The location was also attractive to mills in the early 19th century because of Six Mile Creek.
