Historical Context

Platt Benson Oakley (27 Nov 1894 - 27 Jan 1982), better known as P.B. Oakley, was a photographer and journalist for more than 50 years. He worked for the Geneva Daily Times, as well as a few Syracuse papers, including the Syracuse Post and Syracuse Herald-Journal. He also worked as a police photographer. Through his work, he created an extensive collection of photographs; about 11,000 prints and negatives were donated to the Geneva Historical Society.

Scope of Collection

This collection includes portraits of Geneva-area residents in the mid-20th century. The photographs include the people’s names and often a brief biography.
